A combined heat and power plant products power and heat at the same time. Most combined heat and power plants run on natural gas, but heating and vegetable oil, bio-diesel or biogas may also be used. Mechanical energy is first generated with a combustion engine and then converted to power. The heat created during the process is used right on site for heating and warm water. If there is extra power, it can be fed to the local power network.

While conventional power plants only achieve 35 to 42% efficiency, combined heat and power plants can reach up to 90%. Thus, the power is clearly better used and the environment is not burdened. Since Osann simultaneously generates solar power, the overall power balance of the company is positive – the CO2 emissions generated by production and shipping are counterbalanced.

This is certainly just a small contribution to the world climate, but still a good start!
